The United Way of Greater Knoxville announced Thursday it has set a goal of $13,350,000 to raise for its 2016 campaign.

The organization kicked off its fundraising crusade at Regal Pinnacle Stadium 18 Theatre in Turkey Creek Thursday morning. More than 300 people came out to show their support.

Last year, the group beat their 2015 goal, raising $13,151,047. Campaign chairs Dr. Jack Lacey with UT Medical Center and WBIR's own Robin Wilhoit spearheaded that campaign.

This year’s goal is roughly $200,000 more than last year’s. Volunteers for United Way have been working since early spring.

“Personally, I have been busy visiting many local employers, seeking their continued support for United Way,” said 2016 campaign chair and Regal Entertainment Group CEO Amy Miles. “I have shared with them continued needs of our community and I steadfastly believe the funded programs prepare our children to become successful in school, provide a safe place for families to live, and train individuals so they can lead productive lives.”
