Twins donate hair for Mother's Day

Twins, Cheyenne and Canyun Shelton, spend most of their time outside on their family farm.

While their feeding the chickens and riding their bikes, the 7-year-old girls complain their long, curly locks always get in the way.

"Their hair is really thick so when it came time to brush their hair they would say, 'No, no no,'" said Tracy Shelton, the twins' mom.

Tracey suggested the girls get a trim, but they wanted a more drastic haircut.

Tracy told them about Wigs for Kids, an organization that creates wigs for children battling cancer.

"We could give your hair to a little girl that doesn't have any?" Tracey suggested to Canyun, "She said, 'That's what I want to do.' So Cheyenne jumped right on board. She said, 'Mine too?'"

Just three years ago, Canyun was diagnosed with a Wilms Tumor that effected both of her kidneys. During that time, the trauma caused both girls to stop talking. After 18 rounds of chemo, Canyun lost her hair completely.
Her sister, who was never far from her side, told her mom she wanted her hair gone too.

"{Cheyenne} she said, 'Mommy, I want to be like sissy.' This was pretty big because it was the most she had talked in six months," Tracy said.

The girls grew their hair back out together, reaching more than the required 12 inches needed to donate.

In honor of Mother's Day, the girls decided to chop it off, together.

"I'm just so proud of them," Tracy said, "I think we always wonder what we can give to somebody else. To watch them set here and say it's just hair, it means a lot."

The girls are happy to know they're helping someone else and are grateful to not have to worry about brushing their hair quite so much.
