Parking rates going up at McGhee Tyson Airport

TYS is seeing more passengers than ever before, and needs to generate funds to pay for additional parking and an additional TSA security checkpoint.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It will soon cost more to park at Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport.

Starting July 1, 2019, the cost for the Short Term Parking Lot will increase from a maximum of $18 per day to $20 per day. The Long Term Parking Lot will increase from a maximum of $12 per day to $14 per day. The Economy Parking Lot’s rate will not change and is a maximum of $10 per day.

Why the increase? It's actually a good thing, because TYS is getting busier and needs to quickly add more parking spaces to accommodate customers.

The airport has experienced 35 consecutive months of passenger growth. There are longer lines at the TSA Security Checkpoint and at times, there just aren't enough parking spaces.

To accommodate the increasing passenger numbers, the Airport Authority plans to add a fourth lane to the TSA Security Checkpoint and add 450 parking spaces in the Economy Lot, which will not be impacted by the rate change.

The parking rate increase will help pay for the infrastructure improvements.
