Pediatric urgent care center opens at East Tennessee Children's Hospital's West Campus

East Tennessee Children's Hospital opened a pediatric urgent care at its West campus Monday. The Hospital says its the first of its kind in the Knoxville area.

Knoxville — East Tennessee Children's Hospital opened its pediatric urgent care center Monday, the first of its kind in the Knoxville area.

The urgent care center is located at the Hospital's West Campus, near the intersection of Pellissippi Parkway and Westland Drive.

The center is partnering with TeamHealth to provide immediate medical care during after hours and weekends, or when pediatric offices are not generally open. The hours are 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. on weekends.

Doctors will serve children at birth to age 21 for general urgent care needs, like mild sickness or minor injuries. It will be staffed entirely with pediatricians.

"We want this to be part of an integrated acute care network, so if you're coming to urgent care, you're doctor's going to get that information first thing in the morning, know exactly what happened during your visit," Redman said.

Dr. Rita Wesbrook will serve as the medical director. She has more than 16 years of experience in pediatric emergency medicine, and has worked in the Children's Hospital Emergency Department for the last 10 years.
