Powell community fundraising to help family of 8-year-old killed in E. Emory Road crash

The Powell community is rallying to help the mother and family of a young girl who died in a crash off East Emory Road Saturday.

POWELL — The Powell community is rallying to help the family of a young girl who died Saturday in a crash that killed one other.

The Knoxville Police Department said 8-year-old Ava Easterday died Saturday night when her mother's SUV collided with a motorcycle on East Emory Road in Powell.

The motorcycle driver, 23-year-old Philip Jardine, also died in that crash.

The mother, Alice Easterday, and her other daughter Chelsea were taken to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Powell community has been rallying for Ava -- holding memorials and fundraisers for the family.

In June 2016, Alice Easterday's husband and Ava's father, Jeremy, was also killed in a head-on crash in North Knox County.

Powell Youth Cheerleaders are selling hair bows to raise money for the mother of Ava in her honor. People wishing to purchase a bow should head to the Powell Youth Football Cheerleading Facebook page.

"I can't imagine the loss that you would feel, and while you can't always do something to help somebody feel better, you always try to do what you can. And what I can do is help her alleviate... as a community we can help alleviate the financial burden," cheerleading coach Jamie Musgrave said.

Another fundraiser "All in for Ava" is being held at Pizza Hoss in Powell. The organizers said they will be offering shirts, bracelets and a silent auction. All food sales will be donated to the Easterday family.
