They weren't even born when terrorists took down the twin towers on 9/11, but that didn't stop some kids in Maryville from showing their appreciation on this day of remembrance.

The children's group from St. John United Methodist Church paid a visit to a nearby fire station Wednesday evening to share cookies and cards with the firefighters.

The small mission trip has been in the works for a year, a simple way to say thank you to the firefighters for their service.

"These young folks and parents alike behind us coming by and bringing us gifts and just coming by and saying thank you means a lot. The reason we do this job is for them, because of them, so it means a lot. It's a good feeling that you have your community backing you," said Lt. Mike Davis.

The children also got a tour of the fire station and even tried on some of their fire fighting gear.
