Rescue crews find seven missing hikers in Cohutta Wilderness

Crews were searching for three adults and four children who had reportedly disappeared near Jacks River Falls.

POLK COUNTY, TN (WRCB) - Rescue teams have found seven hikers who were believed to have disappeared near Jacks River Falls in western Polk, Murray and Fannin Counties near the Tennessee state line.

West Polk County Volunteer Fire and Rescue said the lost hikers were found by a Georgia rescue helicopter around the Rice Camp area. Personnel are heading their way to pick them up.

Rescue crews had been searching for three adults and four children around the Jacks River Falls area, which is in a remote section of Cohutta Wilderness known as Big Frog.

Tri-State Mutual Aid had crews standing by for a ground search, and West Polk said it had drones ready to deploy in the effort.
