East TN, KY schools closing due to coronavirus concerns

The following school systems are closing for coronavirus precautions.

This will be updated as we get further information. The latest closings list can always be found here.

UPDATE: On Tuesday, March 24, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee asked for all schools to close until April 24 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Some schools said teachers will be in contact with parents and they should stay tuned for any guidance going forward.

Closings

Alcoa City Schools are closed until March 31.

Anderson County Schools will be closed through April 3.

Athens Schools are currently closed through Friday, March 31.

Blount County Schools will be closed through March 31.

Campbell County Schools are closed through March 31.

Claiborne County Schools are closed through Friday, March 28. 

Clinton Schools are closed through April 3.

Cocke County/Newport Schools will be closed through March 27.

Cumberland County Schools will now be closed through March 31.

Diocese of Knoxville Catholic Schools - all 10 schools will be closed through April 13. At-home instruction online will begin March 23. 

Grainger County Schoolare closed through Friday, April 10.

Hamblen County Schools will be closed through March 31.

Hancock County Schools will be closed through April 24.

Hawkins County Schools will be closed through March 31.

Jefferson County TN Schools will be closed through April 24.

Knox County Schools will be closed through April 24, including all school-sponsored and community events.

Lenoir City Schools are closed through April 3. 

Loudon County Schools are closed through April 3.

Maryville City Schools are closed  for in-person classes through April 3 and will begin online instruction starting March 23.

McMinn County Schools are closed through March 31.

Monroe County Schools will be closed starting Monday, March 16. No activities will be permitted on any campuses. They will be closed through Friday, March 20 with spring break being the following week, March 23-27, 2020.

Oak Ridge Schools will close through at least March 31, and are planning for the possibility of staying closed longer.

Roane County will be closed through March 31.

Rogersville Schools will be closed through March 31.

Scott County Schools will be closed through March 31.

Sevier County Schools will be closed through March 31.

Sweetwater City Schools will be closed through Spring Break through March 30.

Union County Public Schools will be closed for three weeks starting March 16th with students returning to school April 6.

McCreary County Schools in Kentucky are closed until April 10.

Whitley County Schools in Kentucky are closed March 16 to March 27.
