The Sevierville Police Department says it has been investigating several reports and social media posts about school shootings. Officers say they have not identified any credible or active threats.
Police say they have been working with the Sevier County Sheriff's Office, Sevier County School System and the Attorney General's Office to perform interviews and investigate every report.
One of those reports came in late last week when a school resource officer was notified of a suspicious social media account that had allegedly been created by a Sevier County High School student.
Investigators say they worked with school officials to quickly identify the 17-year-old student responsible, and he was charged with harassment. The social media account did not contain any threats of violence, so officers do not believe it was a potential safety concern.
Officers are asking the community to please report any concerns to law enforcement in hopes of keeping everyone safe.
