One local teacher's dream for her students came true on Monday.
Oak Ridge Associated Universities and University of Tennessee surprised Austin-East High School teacher Rhea Carmon with 30 thousand dollars for a complete technology makeover for her math classroom. Carmon submitted a video for the contest explaining that her AP students need the tools to excel.
She plans to install wall to wall white boards for the students to work complicated math problems. She also plans to upgrade the furniture to be more like a college classroom...and buy more Macbooks for online learning.
“They want to learn and they want to be great so I wanted to give them everything to be great so this has just made my whole year,” said Carmon. “Made the whole thing worth it.”
The new technology should be in place by August. That is just in time for her juniors to use it next school year.
