Hundreds of students are in Knoxville this weekend for Destination Imagination.

Nearly 8,000 students from more than 1,400 teams will compete in STEM-field challenges this week. It's part of a year-long competition with students from around the globe.

Organizers say the competition challenges students in unique ways.

"They are using their creativity, teamwork, critical thinking. They've used skills in science tech, engineering, arts, math and creatively solved a challenge," Louise Liddle with the Board of Trustees said.

The competition started Wednesday and will go through Saturday.
