TOSHA investigating death of worker at Bush Brothers' facility

An investigator is currently on-site to start an investigation, according to Tennessee Dept. of Labor & Workforce Director of Communications Chris Cannon.

Bush Brothers has confirmed the death of a worker at its plant in Jefferson County.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that an individual died in an accident at the Chestnut Hill plan this morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this worker during this time of grieving,” said Bill Seale, vice president at Bush Brothers.

The woman's name has not been released, and authorities have not said how she was killed.

Seale said she was a contractor at the plant, but had been working there for several months.

Tennessee OSHA has an investigators at the plant, according to Tennessee Dept. of Labor & Workforce Director of Communications Chris Cannon.

The company is cooperating fully with the Tennessee OSHA investigation and also conducting its own parallel investigation, said Seale.

The plant was closed Monday to help employees deal with the loss, and Seale said counselling will be offered to employees at the plant.

Seale said their hearts go out to everyone affected by this incident.

The facility is near the Bush Bean's Visitor's Center, located on Chestnut Hill Road.

Bush Brothers is best known for its Bush's Best brand baked beans. The company headquarters is based in Knoxville but it operates plants in Chestnut Hill, Tennessee and Augusta, Wisconsin.
