Trump: Maybe Ryan doesn't want me to win so he can run in 2020

Donald Trump says Paul Ryan may be trying to harm his chances of being president in 2016 because Ryan wants to run for president in 2020.

Donald Trump says Paul Ryan may be trying to harm his chances of being president in 2016 because Ryan wants to run for president in 2020.

In an interview that aired on Good Morning America Tuesday, the GOP nominee was asked whether he thought the speaker of the House was rooting for him to win in November.

"Well, maybe not, because maybe he wants to run in four years or maybe he doesn’t know how to win,” Trump said. "I mean, who can really know. But I know I’m in his territory and they are all screaming for Trump.”

Ryan technically still supports Trump but announced last week he would not be defending Trump or campaigning on his behalf.

The unprecedented announcement from the man who had been the party’s vice presidential nominee just four years ago came after a 2005 Access Hollywood video was released in which Trump discussed groping women because of his celebrity status.

Trump has responded with frequent Twitter attacks aimed at Ryan over the past week, and many of his supporters have also turned against Ryan.
