Crews began working this week on the first new turf football field for Knox County high schools.
Contractors started moving 160 truck-loads of dirt at Powell High School last week. In December, Pilot Flying J and the Haslam Family pledged $10 million for new synthetic turf fields at all 13 high schools in the district.
“We really feel like we are [ahead of schedule],” said Will Ferguson, a contractor on the project. “It's been a great start, weather has corporate a lot, yeah, feels like we are a little bit ahead of schedule.”
The crew at Powell will also install the fields at three other schools, including Fulton High School. That work begins next week.
