A Knoxville man is recovering at the hospital after being trapped in a tree he was trimming Tuesday afternoon.

According to Rural Metro Fire PIO Jeff Bagwell, when crews arrived on scene, they found the man 60 feet up in the tree on the 3500 block of Maloney Road off Alcoa Highway around 1 p.m.

Investigators said they learned the man in the tree cut a large branch that swung around and pinned him to the tree. He was harnessed in but because of the way he was pinned, he couldn't get down.

Crews tossed the man some rope and he was able to rig his own system to get down, according to Bagwell.

Bagwell said the tree trimmer's knowledge of rope rescue equipment made this rescue a whole lot easier.

"We were preparing for the worst," Bagwell said. "This could've been a long job that could've lasted for several minutes."

The man suffered minor injuries.
