Martin Daniel first won the seat in 2014.

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — House Republican lawmaker Martin Daniel announced Tuesday he won't seek re-election.

Daniel first was elected in 2014. He's a lawyer and outdoor sign company owner.

Daniel, 63, represents District 18, an area of West Knoxville and West Knox County north and south of Interstate 40 from the Bearden area to Pellissippi Parkway. He has two children.

In a prepared release, Daniel said he's enjoyed getting to know his constituents and meeting other leaders  in Nashville.

"While I will no longer serve in the House of Representatives, I plan on remaining involved in politics and government in other ways, and I look forward to future opportunities," the statement reads.

Daniel chairs the House Government Operations Committee, and he's a member of the House Calendar & Rules, House Insurance, and House Judiciary Committees, the House Constitutional Protections & Sentencing, and the Life & Health Insurance Subcommittees, among other subcommittees.
