Maryville's first city councilwoman sworn in

Sarah Herron said she found out from library records that she was one of the first women to even run for a city council seat.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — History is made in the city of Maryville!

Sarah Herron, the first woman to be elected to the Maryville City Council, will be sworn in at Maryville City Hall on Tuesday night.

Herron said she found out from library records that she was one of the first women to even run for a city council seat.

She said she's proud to be the first councilwoman, but she's also proud of the support she received from other women who help get her elected.

"I'm also proud of the fact that I had so many working on my campaign, so it wasn't just about me. It was that women wanting a seat at this table, and I'm so honored that women trusted me with that and worked so hard to help me get elected," she said.
