Tips on registering to vote at the last minute

Monday, April 2 is the final day to register to vote in the primary in Knox County and while getting yourself registered may seem difficult, you have plenty of options that may only take minutes.

There's just one more chance to register to vote in time for the May primary elections.

Monday, April 2 is the final day to register to vote in the primary in Knox County and while getting yourself registered may seem difficult, you have plenty of options that may only take minutes.

Tennesseans can print an application online and then mail in to their county's election commission. It's just one page and includes basic personal information.

The application has to be postmarked by Monday and you will need to bring an ID with you when you vote.

For the first time, you can also complete the full process online.

Your other option is to register in person at the election commission. If you do it in person, Knox County administrator of elections Cliff Rodgers explains even an outdated ID will do.

"If they don't have an ID, we're still going to register them to vote. Its easier than people think, if they come to our office. Now if they register by mail, they're going to need a photo id issued by the state of Tennessee or the federal government," Rodgers said.

Rodgers added that the ID can even be expired as long as it has your photo on it. You'll need to choose whether to vote in the democratic or republican primary.
