SPOKANE, Wash. – The two Navy aviators who drew a phallic symbol in the sky over Okanogan County, Washington have officially been disciplined for the incident.
On November 17, officials with the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island confirmed one of their aircraft were involved in the obscene skydrawings that looked like male genitalia.
The story went incredibly viral and trended across the nation and even was picked up in foreign countries.
Navy officials confirmed Friday the aviators of the Electronic Attack Squadron 130, known as “The Zappers,” had been behind the incident and were disciplined, according to Cmdr. Ronald Flanders, the Naval Air Forces spokesman.
Flanders did not offer any details beyond that the unidentified lieutenants went before a Field Naval Aviator Evaluation Board on November 22.
"The Navy holds its aircrew to the highest standards and we find this absolutely unacceptable, of zero training value and we are holding the crew accountable,” the Navy told KREM 2 in a statement at the time of the drawings.
