No final decisions had been made as of Tuesday morning, per a source close to the situation.

WBIR has confirmed former Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones has met with Alabama about a position on its coaching staff.

No final decisions had been made as of Tuesday morning, per a source close to the situation.

A report from Matt Zenitz of AL.com tied Jones to an off-field analyst position at Alabama. The report said Jones met with Alabama head coach Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa about the off-field role.

Tennessee parted ways with Jones on Nov. 12 after he led the team to a 4-6 record to start in the 2017 season.

Jones, 50, departed with a 34-27 record, and has been out of work ever since. Reports connected Jones loosely to the head coaching vacancy at the University of Arizona, which later went to former Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin.

Jones was also in contact with Knoxville Catholic head football coach Steve Matthews about a role as an assitant on the Fighting Irish's staff, though talks were far from anything concrete.

UT owes Butch Jones an approximate $8.2 million buyout in monthly installments through February 2021.

Alabama has taken on former head coaches in the past to perform analyst roles. Former Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin was a part of Coach Saban's staff from 2014-2016. Former New Mexico and Maryland coach Mike Locksley joined Saban's staff in an analyst role in 2016 and currently serves as its offensive coordinator.
