Finchum to make Cup debut at Bristol

Knoxville native Chad Finchum will drive on the biggest stage NASCAR has to offer, at a racetrack that means so much to him and his family.

Knoxville native Chad Finchum will make his Monster Energy Cup Series debut in April at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Finchum, a Xfinity series regular, shared the big news while promoting the Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 race Tuesday in his hometown.

The Halls High School alumnus will race in both the Fitzgerald 300 and Food City 500 on Apr. 14 and 15. That's two races in two days, 800 laps total.

"I don't think there's a better place to make that start than Bristol," Finchum said Monday. "Hopefully I can make the transition and be a full-time Cup driver. But for now, I'll take what I can get. I have the opportunity in front of me and hope we can capitalize on it."

Finchum's first big break came at Bristol in 2016, when he won the checkered flag at the K&N Pro Series race. He said he still considers that win the most important of his career.

He used to watch races there with his family when he was younger.

"Coming up through the ranks, I've always said when we were sitting in the grandstands, 'That's where I want to be,'" Finchum said. "I want to be out there on that side of the field."

Bristol Motor Speedway is partnering with Rally, a rideshare bus service to shuttle fans to and from the races that weekend.
