Nashville's bid to host NFL draft among items on league owners' meeting agenda this week

Nashville appears to be the top contender to host the 2019 NFL Draft. The official site will be announced this week.

The site of the 2019 NFL draft will be announced at some point during the league’s spring owners’ meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday in Atlanta.

Nashville has “emerged as the leading contender” among the five cities vying to host the draft in 2019 or 2020, ESPN reported on May 10, citing league sources. The other candidates are Las Vegas, Denver, Kansas City, Mo., and a combination bid from Cleveland and Canton, Ohio.

The league declined to comment on what it deemed “speculation.”

Other items on the agenda include:

* A proposal to have all player ejections subject to replay review. The prospect of ejections could become more commonplace after the league in March passed a rule against players lowering their helmets to initiate contact with opposing players.

* A proposal to change kickoffs in an effort to reduce concussions. Potential changes include eliminating running starts for coverage units, requiring five men to line up on both sides of the ball, the placement of players on the return team in relation to the ball and eliminating two-man “wedge” blocks.

* Discussing the NFL’s policy for players during the national anthem.

* Approving David Tepper as the new owner of the Carolina Panthers.
