No. 9 Lady Vols take down No. 12 Texas

The Lady Vols are undefeated this season and are 8-0 after today's game.

AUSTIN — The No. 9 Lady Vols beat No. 12 Texas, 88-82 in their first matchup against a ranked opponent this season.

Tennessee and Texas have played every season for the past 37 years, and the Lady Vols have now won back-to-back games in the series.

The Lady Vols got off to a slow start, settling for shots and were down by as many as 11 point early on.

They settled in the second quarter though, and a 10-0 run game them a 29-27 lead with just under five minutes left in the first half.

That's also when senior Meme Jackson found her groove. After combing for 15 total points in their previous three games, Jackson put up 20 first-half points and had a career-high 33 points on the day.

Sophomore Evina Westbrook had quite the day as well with 23 points and 6 assists. Together, they combined for 56 points.

The Lady Vols led by five points at hte break, their first lead at halftime in four games.

The second half was an all out battle. Texas made it a one-point game with 3:19 left in the game

Rennia Davis got into foul trouble early on and had trouble finding her rhythm, but she hit a crucial three-point shot with 1:23 left in the game to give Tennessee a 78-23 lead.

With the win, the Lady Vols move to 8-0 on the season.
