Championship Friday: How East Tennessee fared in Spring Fling finale

Gatlinburg-Pittman soccer and Greeneville baseball headlined the list of champions early Friday afternoon.

Gatlinburg-Pittman High School brought home its first state championship in school history on the backs of its soccer team to start Spring Fling Friday in a big way.

The Highlanders faced a 1-0 halftime deficit vs. Signal Mountain in the Class A state title game.

Ricardo Turcios scored the game-tying goal with 12 minutes left in regulation. Luis Ortiz scored the game-winner just four minutes later.

Greeneville beat Loudon 3-0 in the AA state title game. The game lasted more than four hours, after three separate lightning delays elongated the first half. Ryan Thompson, Devin Elyze-Vital, and Jean Pierre Elyze-Vital scored goals for Greeneville.

The Green Devils have won back-to-back state titles.

Baseball

Meanwhile, Greeneville baseball crushed Riverside in the AA baseball championship, 11-0 in five innings.

Per a TSSAA source, Greeneville High School became the first high school in state history to win football, baseball, and soccer championships in the same academic year.

Softball

Powell softball entered the AAA softball championship with the upper hand. Undefeated in the state tournament, the Lady Panthers would have to lose twice to Walker Valley to cede the title to the Mustangs.

Walker Valley beat Powell, 7-6 in extra innings in Game 1.

Powell rallied back and won Game 2, 2-1, crowning them the AAA champions.

Gibbs softball's season came to a close after losing its morning game to White House Heritage.

This article will be updated with the latest developments as games progress on Friday.
