High school football coach Scott Meadows informed 10News of his retirement Wednesday afternoon.

Meadows won a state championship with the Alcoa Tornadoes in 2000 and most recently coached for Pigeon Forge.

Meadows sent the following statement:

"Due to medical reasons I have decided to retire from coaching. After seeing my cardiologist and discussing everything with [my wife] Patty and my family, I feel this is the best decision. Patty and I just bought a house in Sevier County and love living here. Thanks to Dr. Parton, John McClure and Dr. Clabo for allowing me to be the head football coach at Pigeon Forge."

Pigeon Forge finished the 2016 football season with a 5-6 record, winning four of their last five games before falling to CAK in the first round of the playoffs.

Previous stops for Scott Meadows included Knoxville Catholic, Sequoyah, William Blount, and Jefferson County.
