2 dead after single-car crash on Chapman Highway at White School Road

The crash happened near White School Road in Sevier County on Jan. 16.

Two people died in a crash on Chapman Highway earlier this month, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol. 

THP said Melissa Oody, 50, died after she was traveling south on Chapman Highway near White School Road and her vehicle traveled off the roadway while she was negotiating a curve. Oody's vehicle went up an embankment and hit a power pole, the report said. 

According to THP, the crash happened on Jan. 16 at around 12:28 p.m. 

Martin Collins, 52, was a passenger in Oody's vehicle and was initially injured in the crash. The report said Collins died two days later, on Jan. 18.

In the past three years, there have been 10 deadly crashes on the 22-mile stretch of Chapman Highway from South Knoxville to Sevierville.
