Person dies in crash on Norris Freeway

The crash happened around 3:34 p.m. and closed the roadway in both directions for over an hour, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said.

One person died in a crash on Norris Freeway at Brush Valley Road Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3:34 p.m. and closed the roadway in both directions for over an hour, the Tennessee Department of Transportation said.

Multiple cars were involved but, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, only one person died.

THP identified the victim as Stanley Buckner, 67, and said he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Another 67-year-old woman in a different vehicle, Vickie Hooks, suffered injuries in the wreck. THP said she was wearing her seat belt, which they believe made a difference in saving her life.

THP said Buckner's vehicle and another were traveling north on Norris Freeway. The other vehicle went to make a right turn onto Highway 170, when THP said Buckner's vehicle hit it causing it to roll over.

Buckner's vehicle then crossed into the southbound lane, hitting Hooks' vehicle head on.
