KCSO: One dead after car crash near Union County line Thursday night

Officials said that a helicopter was called in for at least one person Thursday night, after a serious car crash near Maynardville Highway.

UNION COUNTY, Tenn. — Rural Metro Fire and the Knox County Rescue Squad responded to a car crash on Loyston Road, by Maynardville Highway at around 11 p.m. Thursday night.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office said a person died after a pick-up truck struck a tree head-on. 

Officials said the driver of the pick-up was trapped inside and he was critically injured. 

A Lifestar Medical Helicopter was called after the car crash, they said. The victim died as they tried to free him from the vehicle, according to officials. 

The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
