Over two dozen people rescued from flash floods in Campbell County

Campbell County continues to experience issues from heavy rain and intense flash floods Friday night.

As heavy rain moved fast into Campbell County, floodwaters rose rapidly across the county.

From across the county and especially into downtown LaFollette, viewers sent us pictures of the rising floodwaters. As of 1 a.m., over two dozen people were rescued and transported to a shelter the Red Cross set up, according to Justin Letner, Campbell County Sheriff's Office public information officer. The Red Cross shelter is at Jacksboro Middle School.

Multiple roads are closed in the area. Letner said Highway 63 and Back Valley Road were back open Saturday morning. He said problems areas remain, including the Demory, High Knob and Glades Spring areas.

The Campbell County sheriff is encouraging everyone to stay indoors, because the situation continues to be dangerous. Extra shifts are on patrol to answer calls.

Letner said anyone who needs help should contact 911, and officials will get to them as soon as possible.
