TVA prepares for upcoming rain by bringing down water levels

With rain in the forecast this weekend, TVA is bringing down the water levels around several of its dams.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Storms and rain are in the forecast for this weekend, and the Tennessee Valley Authority is getting ready by bringing down water levels at several dams across the state.

The TVA is spilling dams while also sluicing and releasing water in order to make room for the rainfall that is expected to start this Saturday. East Tennessee is expected to get between half-an-inch to an inch of rain during Saturday's rain.

Fontana, Norris, Cherokee and Douglas Dams are sluicing and spilling water to regain flood storage capacity. The TVA has been posting videos of the process to their Facebook page, including videos of Fontana Dam sluicing water and a look inside Norris Dam.
