Farragut High School student killed in head-on crash

An 18-year-old Farragut High School student died in a two-vehicle crash on John Sevier Highway on Saturday morning.

Taylor Corum, 18, of Knoxville died in the head-on crash around 8:05 a.m. Saturday, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report.

Driving in her Honda Accord, Corum was headed west on John Sevier Highway near Circle Oak Drive when her vehicle crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.

The Accord hit a truck driven by Luther Manns, 53, of Maryville.

The THP report said Manns was uninjured. There were no other passengers in either vehicle.

Both Corum and Manns were wearing seat belts.

Corum's obituary said she was a senior at Farragut High School. She volunteered at East Tennessee Children's Hospital and tutored students with special needs at Farragut High School.

At Farragut High School, Corum also served as vice president of the Spanish Club.

Cheryl Allmon is ETCH's director of volunteer services and programs.

"Taylor was a girl that did anything," Allmon said. "She volunteered here at the hospital, she volunteered with off-sites. Everything Taylor did was with a passion. My heart is broken. I mean, there's just a void."

Corum volunteered at ETCH several times a week through a program called Senior Out of School Experience.

"I just think if the rest of us had a little bit more Taylor in us, you know, what a great world," Allmon said. "Taylor was that girl that set the mark for everybody else, you know? Everything she did, she did with passion, she did with enthusiasm. She couldn't wait to help somebody else."

She said Corum was assigned tasks ranging from washing cars to cuddling with NICU babies.

"I guarantee you, the phone will ring this week. Somebody's going to say, 'Hey, can Taylor come up and play?' because they've gotten used to having her here, and the patients love her," Allmon said. "We want to always remember her and always remember her spirit."

The family will receive friends and celebrate Corum's life from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel.

A number of postings to different social media accounts expressed condolences to Corum and her family.
