Knoxville boy surpasses goal to fund one day of cancer research

Ethan Jacob raised more than $600 on the opening day of his lemonade stand.

Ethan Jacob celebrated his seventh birthday by being able to fund a whole day of cancer research. Earlier this week, we told you about his idea to raise money for the Foundation of Childhood Cancer by opening his lemonade stand this weekend.

His goal was to raise $400 because he says that's how much one day of research costs. He surpassed that goal by raising $686.

"I want to go all around the world making lemonade stands and raising tons of money for kids with cancer," Jacob said.

He sold lemonade and sweet treats for 50 cents each outside of his West Knoxville home today.

"It makes me happy to help," he said.

Although he doesn't know anyone personally affected by cancer, he knows how harmful it can be. He was inspired by the children's book "Alex and the Amazing Lemonade Stand" about a young girl with terminal cancer who raises money for research by opening a lemonade stand.
