Take it off! Where clothing goes after marathon runners strip and toss

Thousands of runners ran in the marathon Sunday and the chilly temperatures made them bundle up before the race.

If you watched the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon, you might have seen that runners were shedding clothes as they ran.

Thousands of runners ran in the marathon Sunday and the chilly temperatures made them bundle up before the race.

As they made their way through the course, they started shedding layers and leaving them behind. Crews went around Monday and picked up 3 bags worth of clothes and donated them to Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries.

The clothes weren't the only things donated.

"We've got lots of chocolate that's left over and some other food and refreshments so they had their Second Harvest truck this morning came and took that so that can go to folks that could use them," Jason Altman, Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Race Director, said.

Altman said most of the clothes that they found were within the first mile of the race and range from shirts and hoodies to pants.
