Abby Ham is so excited to be back at WBIR to anchor 10News Today. She had to spend time in several different cities to make her way home, and she is so glad she finally did.
Abby started her career in Parkersburg, West Virginia-Marietta, Ohio, as anchor and producer of the 5:00 show at WTAP. After a year, she was promoted to evening anchor and 11:00 producer. WTAP was the very best place to get her feet wet. While there, she learned to shoot and edit video, report, anchor and produce. She spearheaded a special segment called "Come Home" about people who left the mid-Ohio Valley and then decided to come home. She was also very involved with the 2004 presidential election between Former President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry. She even got the opportunity to interview then-Democratic Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards.
She was with WTAP for 2 1/2 years and then moved here to Knoxville to become weekend anchor/reporter for WBIR. After a few months, she was named morning anchor. During her time, she reported on various stories, including the fire at the McClung Warehouses. The coverage she generated with her colleagues was nominated for a regional Emmy.
She loved her time at WBIR but had an opportunity to anchor the morning show in Cleveland, Ohio. While she was sad to leave, she embraced her new position at WKYC-TV.
While in Cleveland, Abby got to report on the 2008 presidential election, more specifically the Cleveland debate between 2008 Democratic Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. She also got to work with special organizations, like the JDRF, The Ronald McDonald House, and Dress for Success.
Abby is a graduate of the University of Arizona's journalism program. She is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but has lived all over the country. Abby, her husband Herby, and their dog Stella love being back in the Smoky Mountains with family, friends, and of course, the wonderful WBIR viewers. Thanks for watching, everyone!
