An 81-year-old Murfreesboro woman has died a week after being beaten with a baseball bat.
Murfreesboro police said Loraine VanBlarcom died Wednesday morning at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. As a result, charges against her son, 45-year-old Roger VanBlarcom, were upgraded to murder.
According to The Daily News Journal, the woman told police after the incident that her son asked her, "Do you want to go to heaven?" She said he began beating her with his fists and then the bat.
Officers also said she told them her son said she was being punished for the way he was treated as a child.
He is jailed with bond set at $750,000.
