Soaky Mountain Waterpark is almost finished, but no opening date because of coronavirus

Even though construction is wrapping up, the waterpark will not open until it is safe.

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — A brand new waterpark in Sevier County is nearing completion but with the coronavirus pandemic, we don't know when it will be able to open.

The 50-acre outdoor Soaky Mountain Waterpark is being built across the street from the Sevierville Convention Center and Wilderness at the Smokies Resort.

Crews are pouring the pool decks this week and starting on landscaping next week.

“We are so excited to show off our new amazing family destination. However, due to Governor Lee’s Safer at Home orders and national health directives limiting the size of groups that can congregate we are undetermined when we will be able to open for the 2020 season,” said Dave Andrews, General Manager of Soaky Mountain Waterpark.

Soaky Mountain Waterpark will feature a 35,000 square foot wave pool capable of generating waves up to 6 feet high; a winding wave river spanning an area of 24,000 square feet; and The Hive, a heavily-themed and exciting kids’ play-and-spray feature with multiple slides for both the tame and the daring.

There will also be a kid-friendly activity pool with smaller versions of the other towering slides found throughout the park; an adventure pool with a water obstacle course; a flat-water cabana pool for relaxing poolside; a double FlowRider for the surfer in all of us; and four large slide complexes.

You can buy a 2020 season pass now for $99.99 and it will also be valid for 2021.

The company expects to add nearly 500 full and part-time jobs and attract more than 400,000 visitors a year.
