Maryville High School honors school's maintenance man for service

Maryville High School honored the school's maintenance man, Steve, for his hard work at the school on Sunday.

Steve thought it was just another day on the job.

Until he walked into a room full of applause, music and cheers -- surprised -- as people celebrated him and his nine years of service at Maryville High School.

Maryville High School football coach Derek Hunt shared a video of the congratulations, with people cheering, "Steve, Steve, Steve," in the background.

Hunt said this in the tweet:

"Tonight I got to witness something special. Our school's janitor, though the was coming to clean up after a party.Instead we honored him for his humble service to our kids, our teachers, & our school. We could learn a lot from his work ethic and passion. We love you Steve!"

Roger Murphy, an employee at the central office at Maryville High School, made the event Sunday night possible.
