KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — KaTom Restaurant Supply donated 100 gallons of hand sanitizer to local first responders Wednesday.
Fifty gallons went to the city of Knoxville and 50 went to responders who work on behalf of Knox County.
KaTom, located in Kodak, began preparing and branding the new sanitizer about a month ago. Post Modern Spirits bottled it, according to KaTom representative Mike Cohen.
Leaders say it means Rural/Metro is better equipped to serve the community.
"This is what makes the community resilient and able to get through this time," said Rural/Metro's Jerry Harnish. "It means the firefighters can stay safe and stay clean and get out there to help the community."
Knoxville Police Chief Eve Thomas added that this donation goes a long way to help first responders flatten the curve.
She said all members of the first responder community including herself are thankful for the donation.
