A large fight ended with a woman being stabbed this afternoon in the Mechanicsville neighborhood near Knoxville College.

The Knoxville Police Department said Knox County 911 had received a call about a large fight involving roughly 20 people at the intersection of University Avenue and Alfredda Delaney Street.

Officers arrived shortly after the call to find a crowd of adults and juveniles fighting. KPD said as more officers arrived, people began to disperse.

KPD said they discovered a woman had been taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in a personal vehicle with serious but non-life threatening stab wounds.

Officers said they asked around to find out what happened, but witnesses refused to cooperate and the victim could not say who had stabbed her.

Officers said the fight started after four middle school children had been dropped off by the bus with their family members waiting for them. The victim and a reported suspect were both adults and no children were reported to be hurt.

KPD said Knox County Schools were advised of the details of the incident.
