East TN shares Thanksgiving blessings, welcomes holiday season

As kids and adults viewed the spectacular displays at Fantasy of Trees, they shared with us the things they're most thankful for this year.

As people across the country celebrate Thanksgiving, families across Knoxville made their way to Fantasy of Trees to continue the holiday spirit.

As kids and adults viewed the spectacular holiday displays, they shared with us the things they're thankful for this year.

For many, it was their friends and family, and the chance to be together.

Several people said they were thankful for their health.

"I'd say this is the time of year when you have the most time to spend together and all the traditions, and I just love hanging with my girls," one person said.

Fantasy of Trees has run since 1985 and hosted more than 13,000 guests. Spending the day here also means supporting a good cause as proceeds from the event benefit East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

"All of the funds from this year's Fantasy of Trees go to the surgery department that (ETCH) opened in March," event co-chair Renee Haralson said.

While the holiday season can sometimes be a bit overwhelming with the sprint from Thanksgiving to Black Friday and right on through the Christmas season, for many families, visiting Fantasy of Trees on Thanksgiving night was a chance to reconnect and share time with the people they're most thankful for.

"We're thankful for wonderful health our four grandchildren and we're thankful that we've had 40 years together," one person said.

Fantasy of Trees runs through Sunday. This year's theme is "Over the River and Through the Woods."
