LENOIR CITY, Tenn. — A tiny tremor shook the Lenoir City area again overnight while most people were sleeping.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 1.7 magnitude tremor was recorded in the Lenoir City area just after midnight Friday.
Generally --very few people will even notice a quake that registers under 2.0 magnitude. As of the time of this report, no one had reported that they felt it to the USGS.
East Tennessee is no stranger to these small quakes -- as it's considered a fairly active seismic region.
Researches say the East Tennessee Seismic Zone is the second-most active source of earthquakes east of the Rocky Mountains -- producing roughly 80 small quakes each year.
