Schulz Bräu Oktoberfest kicked off with a keg tap by Mayor Glenn Jacobs

Knoxville got a bit of an early start on the festivities at 6 a.m. since Germany is six hours ahead.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs kicked off Oktoberfest early Saturday morning with a barrel tapping ceremony at a local brewery.

Jacobs tapped the keg at Schulz Bräu Brewing Company at the same time as the mayor in Munich. The event officially started the brewery's two week long Oktoberfest.

Knoxville got a bit of an early start on the festivities at 6 a.m. since Germany is six hours ahead.

"It's really great to be able to highlight the different heritages we have in the county and really the diversity that we do have," said Jacobs.

Doors opened to the public at 8 a.m. The event continued the rest of the day.

German music filled the air, while food and beer filled stomachs. The event even showed a live feed of Munich's Oktoberfest opening ceremony to make it feel like you were actually there.

Schulz Bräu Oktoberfest will have different events until October 6.
