(WBIR – KNOXVILLE) Kitts Café in North Knoxville is closing after more than 20 years of business.

Friday marks the last day the café will be open, and owner Joyce Kitts, 79, said she is ready to walk away.

"A year and a half ago, I had cancer, chemo all that, a double mastectomy and I just thought ‘you know it's probably time for me to be thinking about retiring,'" owner Joyce Kitts said.

The restaurant, which serves breakfast and lunch, originally opened in the farmer's market that is now the New Harvest Park shopping center.

Kitts said the restaurant spent 11 years at the farmer's market, and 11 years at its current location at 4620 Greenway Drive.

"My retirement isn't really going to be a retirement," Kitts said. "My family already has tons of projects for me to do."

Kitts said her grandson has helped her run and maintain Kitts Café.
