OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — On Saturday, the Oak Ridge community was lent a helping hand ahead of the winter season.
Spurgeon Chapel AME Zion Church teamed up with Faith Lutheran Church in Oak Ridge to give back to people who needed winter clothing, food and other supplies. People were able to stop by and get the items for free.
Organizers said this was a way to show love to the community.
"The whole idea of Oak Ridge is to bring people together and to provide harmony and to reach out to everybody," Rose Weaver of Spurgeon Chapel said. "And if you don't understand that there is a resource, then we need to understand a way that we can communicate to know that there is a place for you to go."
A future goal of the church is to connect more with Spanish speakers in the area.
Organizers said the event has served hundreds of people in need in recent years.
