A quad-plex apartment building caught fire early Friday morning.

13 people living in an Oak Ridge apartment complex had their homes damaged after a fire early Friday morning.

According to Fire Chief Darryl Kerley, the fire started accidentally in one of the four apartments on W. Outer Drive in Oak Ridge. The man living there woke up to flames, and tried to put them out, before waking his neighbors, who called 911.

Oak Ridge Police Department said when they arrived on the scene, shortly after 3 a.m, they saw fire coming from the back of the quad-plex apartment and windows.

All four units in the apartment building were damaged in the fire, and the Red Cross will assist the three families living there with food, clothes, and lodging.

Two of the families may be allowed back into their apartments after an inspection on Monday. A local animal shelter will look after two dogs and five cats displaced in the fire.
