OBC Senior Prom: Local church hosts prom celebrating, honoring seniors ages 55 and older

The prom's theme was "Through the Looking Glass."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — It's prom season and a Knoxville church rolled out the red carpet to host a Senior Prom for ages 55 and up.

Overcoming Believers Church hosted their Senior Prom on May 10 at 6 p.m. and it was open to the young at heart.

"It's super exciting, we're going to bring the city our for 55+ senior prom," Maria Antoinette Loggins, creative team lead, said. "We're tapping into the roaring twenties, thinking sparkles, shine, shimmer... things that make things feel grand and pretty."

One of the church members spoke on how the event came to be.

"Our pastor birthed this event because she couldn't go to her prom," Tyrone Beach, OCB deacon. "He wanted to put it on for his mom."

10News talked with members of the church who are on the prom committee and said age is just a number.

"Life doesn't end when you get to a certain age," Loggins said. "I can't think about when I wasn't excited about getting dressed up for something. Life doesn't end because you're a senior."

"The season community members [at OBC] we want to love on them and show them they can have a good time, you can have fun, put on your best clothes and cut a rug," Beach said.

The free event featured dinner and dancing with a live band, DJ Sterl the Pearl. The church also provided transportation resources for people who needed them. Organizers said it was the perfect way to kick off Mother's Day weekend.
