2 East Tennessee women recovering after reported hit-and-run in Nashville

Police said Lindsey Cowan, 28, of Knoxville and Rachel Johnson, 27, of Oak Ridge were riding scooters when they collided with a Lexus in the middle of the intersection with Union Street and 5th Avenue North in Nashville.

Two East Tennessee women were injured in a reported hit-and-run in Nashville Sunday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Police said Lindsey Cowan, 28, of Knoxville and Rachel Johnson, 27, of Oak Ridge were riding scooters when they collided with a Lexus in the middle of the intersection with Union Street and 5th Avenue North in Nashville. The crash happened around 5:25 p.m Sunday.

Officers said the Lexus continued traveling after allegedly hitting the women. However, there are conflicting reports as to whether the Lexus or the scooters had the red light, according to Metro Police.

The Lexus appears to be a mid-2000s model ES 330 or ES 300. According to police, it sustained noticeable front end damage.

Investigators said neither rider was wearing a helmet. Both women are being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
