A 24-year-old man is behind bars in the shooting death of a Maryville man.

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — A man is behind bars in the shooting death of a 44-year-old Maryville man on Tuesday.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office said they arrested 24-year-old Sean Foley and charged him with criminal homicide.

The victim, 44-year-old Jimmy Shelton, died as a result of the shooting, which occurred at a home on Beaver Drive in Maryville, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said deputies responded to 808 Beaver Drive around 6 a.m. after receiving a call from a man named Sean that someone had been shot.

Officers made contact with Foley and a 25-year-old woman outside the home and were told by dispatchers that he had placed a gun in the mailbox.

When officers checked the back porch, they found Shelton had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead on the scene by AMR.

At the time, Deputy Chief Jarrod Millsaps said it was not a random act and described it as a domestic situation. He said people in the neighborhood should not be worried.

Foley is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 30.
