UPDATE (Dec. 26, 2017): Detectives say they do not suspect foul play was involved in the death of a woman whose body was found on Christmas morning in the woods of a rural South Knox County neighborhood.
The woman was identified as Brittany B. Cannon, 28. A dog was found near her body, and she's believed to have lived in a home nearby.
A neighbor living on Bays Mountain Road came across the body about 10 a.m. Monday.
According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the neighbor spotted the body in the woods across the street from a house.
Authorities shut down part of Bays Mountain Road around the 600 block Monday morning as they processed the scene.
Deputies on the scene told 10News they couldn't determine how Cannon died or how long her body had been there.
The Medical Examiner's Office is conducting the autopsy.
Animal Control personnel were also called to the scene about the dog found near Cannon. The area is not heavily developed and there are scattered homes in the largely rural area.
