KNOXVILLE, Tenn — A Kentucky woman pleaded guilty to forging the signature of Pamela Reeves, a former federal judge, as she tried to extort money from an elderly person in Scott County in August 2019. Reeves died in September 2020.

Sunshine Ann Miller, 44, from Whitley City in Kentucky, was sentenced Friday to two years in prison by the Honorable Katheryn A. Crytzer. After her prison term, Miller will also be on supervised release for two years.

According to a release from the Department of Justice, Miller tried to extort money from a bedridden person in August 2019. As part of those efforts, she gave the victim a counterfeit federal warrant which included Reeves' forged signature.

The release also said the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the U.S. Secret Service and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation helped in the case.
